Listed

With the move mere weeks away, we put the house on the market.  What a unique challenge trying to keep the house looking it's best while at home with a toddler and newborn is proving to be! I'm trying but that mostly means leaving the house as much as possible. Hopefully it won't take too long before someone else sees what a gem this house is and snatches it up. The listing pictures are better than every picture I've ever taken of our interior so I thought I'd share a few.
And, of course, if you know anyone looking for a house in Midtown Memphis send them this way.

Memphis Bucket List: Graceland

Before we move East, Peter and I are trying to get pictures of the girls in places that are uniquely Memphis. While I have lots of pictures of the girls in Memphis, we don't have many at Memphis landmarks. And, of course, Ibbie has no Memphis pictures.

Our first stop was the Graceland wall.

Ibbie :: 1 Month

Ibbie's first month passed in a flash. It could be all that we have going on or just that life speeds up as we get older. Either way, I've treasured these early days with Ibbie and want to remember them. She's met all of her grandparents and spent hours in their arms. She's also received hundreds of kisses from her sister, maybe more. Cole delights in Ibbie! And Ibbie, knowing nothing else, receives all of Cole's gestures of love in stride.

Ib seems to be embracing her place as a second child.  She's pretty laid back and doesn't cry too often. Ibbie loves to cuddle and spends a few hours every night in our bed (I don't love co-sleeping so we're trying to get her to spend the whole night in her bassinet). She's fond of nursing and cluster feeds all day. I don't mind though, because she sleeps for two 4-5 hour stretches at night. All the eating has served her well, at three weeks she had already grown 2.5 inches and put on 1 pound 14 ounces.

When Ibbie is awake, she is very awake with wide eyes! She's been on numerous errands with me, to the pumpkin patch, and zoo. We've also taken her around town to get some pictures of her near various Memphis landmarks. With our move just a few weeks away, I want Ibbie to be able to look back at the pictures and know that she was born a Memphian.

Vistors

Between Ibbie's arrival and the upcoming move, visitors have found lots of reasons to come to town! My dad came for a quick trip to love on his granddaughters. The day he left, Peter's folks arrived to meet Ibbie, love on Cole, and help us gets the house tuned-up since we are listing it next week.

Where'd You Get the Name "Ibbie?"

As you could probably guess from Cole's name, we like family names. Early into my pregnancy with Ibbie we decided that we would be finding out the gender of the baby. Once we found out we were having another girl it took no time at all to come up with her name. Elizabeth is my sister's middle name. It was also the name of the two great-grandmothers that I knew best.
In naming a child Elizabeth, there is the nickname debate.  With so many nicknames to choose from, we had some thinking to do: Liz, Beth, Betsy, Eliza, Elle, Izzy, Liddy, Libby, and so on.  Ultimately (and probably predictably) we stuck with family tradition and decided to use my great-grandmother's nickname, "Ibbie." She spelled it with an E- but we opted to use an I- so that the spelling would match the pronunciation. My great-grandmother, Ebbie, was a faithful woman and a solid artist, certainly a worthy namesake for our daughter.

Choosing a middle name was pretty straight forward. We knew we wanted to use a name from Peter's family. We seriously considered using my mother-in-law's maiden name but instead went with Kathleen, my mother-in-law's first name.

So there you have it, the logic behind Elizabeth "Ibbie" Kathleen Slaton.

Pumpkin Patch

It's October, so we decided to buy a pumpkin. Not just any pumpkin, but a pumpkin we picked. Sunday afternoon we loaded the girls into the car, drove to the pumpkin patch, and hoped for the best. Cole took to pumpkin seeking very quickly and narrowed her choice in minutes.
With the pumpkin hunt over, we attempted to get a picture of the girls. We got two!
With the picture of the girls under our belts, Peter offered to try to get a picture with me in it.  While not the most traditional picture, it's a pretty fantastic snapshot of my life right now.
