And So It Begins

I can't help myself sometimes. When I picked the new colors for our house I figured it would be summer before we made any real progress.  Of course, in retrospect that was purely my ambition, never in a million years would I be able to wait that long.

Last weekend I had the pleasure of attending my cousin's Bat Mitzvah in Charlotte, NC. While I was there Peter was in Memphis, rainy Memphis. His plans to fill the weekend with yard work were dashed when he woke up on Saturday morning to find a lake where our backyard had been the night before.  In light of the rain, I suggested that he, maybe, if he wanted to, and really did like the color, could paint the bathroom.  And he did. That man knows the way to my heart!
Next up for the bathroom: new accessories.

Motivated by Peter's work in the bathroom, and the fact that it is Spring Break so I have the time, I decided to get to work. After cleaning the bookshelves, I spent two hours painting the back wall.  We've been talking about doing this for a long time, practically since we moved-in, but it wasn't until the YHLers did it that my anxiety about the project was relieved. With the shelves painted, simplified, and rearranged, I wanted to see how it would look against the new wall color. So I painted. Personally, I think it looks very clean and bright. Exactly what we are going for!
Unfortunately, I only had 8 ounces of paint meaning I was only able to paint a sample or two. But, man oh man, those are some good looking samples! We may even leave them up for a few weeks, or months.
Next up for the living room: more paint and curtains, though maybe not in that order.

Three Things

1. A couple of weeks ago I cut my hair off. It was a bit gutsy since, once again, it was my first visit to the particular stylist.Turns out, she was great. I had a picture and she had talent so it all worked out.

2.  I met Ree Drummond, The Pioneer Woman. She is doing a book tour and happened to make a stop in Memphis. She didn't say anything much to the crowd but was very sweet with smaller groups. Either way, it was loads of fun to hangout with my lady friends while we waited to get our books signed.

3. Peter and I bought some ridiculous shoes and wore them to a party. Themed parties are the best!

Geaux there!

Last week I had the good fortunate of spending some time in New Orleans for a conference. While I never left the French Quarter {I didn't have a car}, I thoroughly enjoyed my visit. Leslie, my conference buddy, and I decided to arrive in New Orleans a day early to maximize our visit. Within 90 minutes of deplaning, we made our way to Café Du Mondé for beignets, chocolate milk, and a café au lait. The 2011 Krewe du Vieux Parade was conveniently scheduled for the day we arrived.  We made sure to get front row seats for the satirical spectacle!
On my last morning in New Orleans, I heard Scott Cowen, the president of Tulane University speak. When asked, "What can we do for New Orleans?" he responded eloquently. Above anything else, he requested that people visit and see first hand what is going on in the city. After my short stay, I know I would like to go back and explore outside of the French Quarter.
