On Sunday afternoon, we popped into the hospital to visit some friends who welcomed a son over the weekend. Baby boy is quite a treasure and very handsome! Cole thought so too. In fact, she basically lunged at him. She was quick to point out his eyes and nose and so badly wanted to touch them. Oh, September is going to be a whirlwind!

T-Minus 10 Weeks
Here's a healthy little dose of reality: my due date is less than ten weeks away! And Cole arrived early. We'll see if sister decides to do the same.

Our Independence Day
What an Independence Day! We started celebrating early in the morning at a birthday party for Cole's friend. The party was held in the front yard, giving the guests a front row seat for the Aurora Circle/Mimosa Avenue Neighborhood Parade. The parade was very sweet. Lots of kids, decorated bicycles, golf carts and firetrucks.

After the parade, the fire trucks doubled back to spray water from the fire hose for the kids to play in. Despite being improperly dressed, Cole made her way into the spray. She started by dancing around the edge then before we knew it, she was deep in the spray. And she stopped. So Daddy ran in and saved her. They were both soaked but it was all in the name of fun.
Later in the afternoon, we met up with some friends for a cookout. The kids played in the water and we grilled out. If you follow me on Instagram, you already know that Cole, Peter and I had made our way to West Memphis to get a few kid-friendly fireworks. Cole's excitement about the fireworks was limited to shopping. While the smoke bombs went over well, the fireworks that made noise terrified our little girl.

After dark, we opted out of any major fireworks displays in order to get Cole in bed and comfort our dogs. While Lily hardly notices the fireworks, every forth of July Gunther shakes and quakes until morning. Since we skipped the major displays we lit a few sparklers in the backyard. It was simple, perfect close to the day.

Drawing Fireworks
My little artist has gotten really into drawing lately. Thanks in no small part to some easy clean up, brush-tip markers recommended by Aunt Nancy. At least a few times a week I get out the white paper and let Cole go wild. This week, she's been drawing fireworks. And, why not?!
I hope everyone has a fun, safe fourth of July. We're going to join some friends for a small neighborhood parade this morning, cookout this afternoon and possibly fireworks this evening. Then again, this evening we may just hold our dogs close and let them know the world isn't ending.
